FORT WORTH, Texas — Pier 1 Imports is closing nearly half its 942 stores as it struggles to draw consumers and compete online.
The home decor company said Monday it is closing up to 450 stores and will also shutter distribution centers. It didn't say where the store closures would occur, but it operates stores in the U.S. and Canada. Pier 1 also plans layoffs at its corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.
There are seven Pier 1 locations in the Pittsburgh area. We’re working to find out if any of those are on the closure list.
The company didn’t say how many workers will be impacted.

Did you know that if you choose a particular seller, Amazon sometimes substitutes a different seller if the latter has product at a closer warehouse?
And finally, since Congress requires products to be labeled with country of origin, why are online sellers not required to disclose this before you buy?
“Made in USA or imported” does not inform.
I have a package of Kirkland AAA batteries that I’ve never opened. I bought them about a year after we moved to Kentucky (seven years ago). They say they are good for ten years. Every battery in that package is leaking all over the place. It’s a plastic container of acid.
I’m going to actually return it as a matter of principle.
i.e. I’ll never buy Kirkland batteries again. I buy the duracell’s on sale now.
The Kirkland French Vodka is darned good, though. And at $19 a family sized bottle can’t be beat. :)
Their $19 Scotch isn’t that great, but their $45 scotch is well worth it. Really good, actually. Definitely worth the extra money.
Big box stores often get specially built stuff...
I live quite rural, two mile private, gravel, road with some curves and up and down. My husband is an online shopper and FedEx or UPS are dropping purchases off every couple of days. The only time it is a problem is the occasional bad winter, i.e. heavy snow and ice. Over ten years there have been a couple of time the UPS driver would call...too icy...Now they drop items off at the post office (8 miles away) when the winter weather is particularly bad.
Cost Plus is owned by Bed, Bath & Beyond now. They are also closing stores.
Thank you for that. We’ll be off a paved road, with an acre lot, but 45 minutes of rural driving from even the smallest town. Sounds like we’ll be good.
Good for you, rural living is quite doable. We’re a 40 minute drive to the outer fringes of a city, 30 minutes to the closest small community (1000 people). If you live where there can be inclement weather (snow/ice/wind) that can cause power outages for any length of time consider a “real” generator (minimum 20kw).
The first thing I bought was a Stihl chainsaw because of the large trees on the lot. Many of the homes on this lake have generators and will be a must-have for us also. Thanks!

Or Mens... I’m 6’5” 225 lbs. Tall but not heavy. I used to be able to pick up Levis bluejeans with a 36” waist/36” leg at the local Sears. No more. They don’t stock any leg lengths beyond 34” and that is getting hard to find. Sales associates just direct you to the website.
I got the message. I buy all my clothing online. I never go into Sears anymore.

Peir 1 never made sense to me... Only women (sorry ladies) or light in the loafer men were ever going to walk into one of their stores and say...
“Huh... $60 for something that is worth maybe $5, but its just so darling I’ll pay that because I have to have it.”
Sadly SEARS lost their identity back in the 90s and never recovered... Its sad to watch the death in super slow motion of the once great company.

Reviews are a pain. I’ve found often that the reviews are not for the product at all. It would be like going to a GM site and reading the reviews for a Corvette, only to find out many of them are for a Vega.
That is an easily solvable problem. Just become the regular family grocery shopper and you'll learn the store layout in no time.

Heard the other day that “Craftsman” hand tools are going to be sold through yet another outlet. Used to be that “Sears” and “Craftsman” were synonymous. A huge chunk of Sears’ identity went out the window when they made that decision.
Yes, I have noticed that the quality of the clothing is better at Costco than Sam’s but for the most part, I usually buy groceries/meat/produce at Sam’s. I figure that my husband will want to keep memberships at both places. I think my two son’s have both and they live near Louisville also.
At the end of the day, we decided to just keep one membership, and Costco won. We also have their executive membership and credit card. We get about $90 back every year on purchases and about $6oo a year back on gas purchases. that was the deal sealer for us.
Yep Sears is essentially a has been operation as they close more
stores. The company says it will be forced to shutter another
96 Sears and Kmart stores in 30 states by February 2020
Following the closures, the company will operate just 182 stores,
down from nearly 700 when it filed for bankruptcy in October (2018).
