DEFICIENT? Boy! How’d we get someone as superior as you on FR? I bet you’re a riot to be around.

It’s terrible, especially going that skinny. It has to be dangerous to do that.

Could you explain what an 8/16 intermittent fasting regime actually is?
****************************************************
Every day you do all your eating (hopefully, healthy foods) during an 8 hour period and then fast for the next 16 hours. Do the same for the next day and every day after.

See post 24 above for a more stringent intermittent fasting diet. I’m a mere beginner.

I noticed that when I am too tired or over stressed and don’t stop to exercise and do another calming activity, I will seek out foods that are much higher in calories than I normally eat.

It’s really about practice. You build your fasting “muscle” by practice.

Here’s one you’ll never find any support for: the epidemic of fattitude is caused by a Soviet biological warfare agent that escaped the lab.

It’s the only hypothesis that explains all the facts.

I need to quit having so many intimate dinners for two with just me showing up.

Maybe in California you are surrounded by liberal women. Expand your horizons.

When asked how he lost the weigh, he said that he just ate less.

Portion size and exercise.

Can't believe all this ballooning up and down is good for you.

It's not good for you. He does it for acting work but he'll likely die much sooner because of it. It's incredibly hard on the heart to yo-yo like that.

There are several different ways to fast. I went with the every other day eat one meal so that there’s a 24 hour period between my last meal on non fast days and my one meal on fast days. I lasted a week doing that until I realized I was starving myself too much which is self-defeating so now I’m doing the 8/16 fasting. The hardest part of this type for me is not eating breakfast right away after I wake up in the morning.

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/6-ways-to-do-intermittent-fasting

I’m going to try and work toward a 6/18 fasting schedule so I eat only between 10 am and 4 pm.

One reason I like the keto lifestyle of eating so much is that I don’t feel hungry between meals like I did with a moderate to heavy carb diet except when I fast for too long. Maybe at some point I can work up to the every other day fast again but for now I’ll stick with something I can live with without feeling like I’m torturing myself.

That’s our ultimate goal but we know that it is too ambitious (for us, anyhow) as a starting point. The 8/16 (11 am - 7 pm for eating) schedule is plenty ambitious for us. I’ll probably try to go to sleep earlier at least at the beginning. There’s no problem fasting when you’re asleep.

Same here - I can go for higher protein and fat but still need some sugar and other carbs to feel right...cutting back on both while going the protein/fat route seems to work - down 6 pounds in 4 weeks and haven’t restarted my exercise regime yet.

Well there is the problem with this study.
