Believe it or not, Broward County actually voted 80,000 to 60,000 in favor of Barry Goldwater in 1964!

Today, Broward has a population of 2 million. Non-Hispanic whites are just 35% of the residents. Black and Hispanic residents both have 30%.

Putting that in perspective, King County (Seattle) has 2.2 million.

Broward County used to be condo commando country and solidly Democrat when I lived in SoFla back in the early 90s. My mom is in Palm Beach Country which, like Broward, last voted GOP in 1988 (in Broward’s case, only by a few hundred votes).

Yes, the Caribs and the South Americans have increased their share of the population, but we will see if that means that Wasserman Schultz ever gets tossed.
