So, these are called Council Houses. They all have the same appearance. It’s like a very large Homeowner’s Association.
Well, even a brick crackerbox beats not having a home at all.

Yes, in England they are called “council estates”.

It doesn’t take fancy architecture to please me. I could live that way except for one feature. I don’t like being on ground level, with my front door literally on the street. Not even any walk up stairs or a tiny porch to separate me from anyone strolling down the street. That would take getting used to.

I remember back in the 80's when a local farmer ordered "One of them dish antennas to pick up HBO on"

A dish manufacturer in Poplar Bluff MO sold him an ADM 25' dish and he told them to "Just stick it in the front yard, by the road"

The 25ft dish actually made his 2 bed 1 bath house look tiny.

His wife was aghast!

People driving by on the little blacktop road would head for the ditch when he started rotating that thing, it was a sight to behold.

Wish I had an actual image of the thing but this image has the proper perspective :-)

I think that’s a side effect of no basements or crawlspaces under the first floor. Not sure why they build them like that. I know that’s standard in swampy areas or places prone to flooding, but I don’t imagine that most of England fits that bill.

Maybe if they try to dig out a basement they’ll just hit some Saxon grave mound and have to wait for the archaeologists to go excavate, so they just don’t bother.

"when the flaccid St Nick was blown "

Guess Britain has the same problem with their news writers and publishers never looking at the phrases they put out (pun intended).

Nearest mosque. Prop that up at the nearest mosque

I had a neighbor in Maui who lived across the street from me Who bought one of those and inflated it next to his house. We lived up on a hillside windward looking down over the ocean and Kahului airport. You could see this thing from an airplane when you were flying in. He had tied it down but not well enough. When he checked on it after a few hours it was gone and was never seen again. I’m still laughing at the look on his face eight years later.

I notice people who buy these inflatable decorations don’t put them up the next year. Do they use a lot of electricity?

Not really. For mine (10' or shorter), the motor/fan is a little 120v model. I run them from 8 AM to 11 PM, so 15 hours. Not a significant issue when the rest of the outdoor lights are LED.

The bigger issue is theft and wind. We didn't put up the 10' bear this year because the wind's been over-abundant this fall.

I once ordered a chandelier for the dining room that turn out to be more along the size needed for the Trump Tower entryway. LOL chemo fog.
