You have a hard time believing cheaper energy is a crucial national interest?
I think most here would rather pay $2 per gallon than $5 regardless any politics behind the pricing.
Yet for some reason they believe the Germans should think otherwise for the sake of ‘Atlantic solidarity’.
Re:You have a hard time believing cheaper energy is a crucial national interest?
What makes you draw that I’m against cheaper energy conclusion ? While I’ll grant that today’s Russia is not Stalin’s Russia Germany becoming dependent on a major energy source which would have no qualms cutting it off is the point.
There are lots of ways the Germans could make energy prices cheaper without shoveling money at what is at the very least a strategic competitor AND undermining NATO countries they are supposedly allied to in Eastern Europe. They could star by restarting their nuclear power plants. Then they could scale back the Gaia worship which has seen them massively subsidize boondoggles like windmills and solar panels.
That they accuse Americans of greed for wanting to sell natural gas to them while simultaneously leeching off of the American taxpayer to pay for THEIR national defense......even as they come nowhere close to fulfilling their promises to spend a paltry 2% of GDP on defense is a level of hypocrisy and chutzpah few could manage - but it sure seems to come to the Germans easily enough.
