CHP estimated between 40 and 50 students, from kindergarten to 5th grade, were on the bus when it was stopped.
Officials said it was one of those children who called 911 to report Rays driving through the Diablo Grande neighborhood.
Ray was charged with DUI and child endangerment, according to KTXL. CHP won't know what type of substance they believe Ray was under the influence of until tests results come back.
The Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District said Ray works as a subcontractor for First Student Transportation. That company declined to comment on her arrest.
Its unclear whether Ray will lose her job or not, but the NCLUSD Superintendent Randy Fillpop said he never wants her to drive for his students ever again.

How much does any parent know about the person who drives the kids to school?
I was homeschooled. Even now my parents would have a problem with it if I were driven across town by a government-issue driver.
CHP always makes me recall CHiPs tv show.
I am glad kid had sense and called 911.
If anything can drive you to drinkin’, a busload of 40-50 K-5th graders might just do it...
No excuse of course...
You think you are hiding it so well, that nobody knows, then the fifth grader yells, She drunk, Im calling the Po Po!
“CHP estimated between 40 and 50 students...were on the bus...”
What, they can’t count that high?
When we were in HS there was a drunk who drove the very longest route, probably 70 miles. The oldest of the first kids to get on the bus at the crack of dawn drove from their stop as the bus driver was still drunk from the night before. Then one day one of the child drivers took the big curve too fast and turned the bus over.
Luckily, the injuries were minor but things changed after that.
“How much does any parent know about the person who drives the kids to school?”
We had a person who worked with us that was mentally ill. She quit and became a school bus driver. I always think of the school bus driver in SouthPark when I think of her.
The Mercury News has more. Driver may have been high.
"8×10 photographs with circles and arrows and paragraphs on back describing each"
We’re talking about the bus driver on the Simpson’s, right?
