The point has been made by many including me that the Senate can set a deadline and dismiss or acquit based on failure to prosecute.
My suspicions are that some really nasty controllers are pulling the strings of Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler and that these same puppeteers are having others pull some real horrors behind the scene involving blackmail of US Senators.
I refuse to follow the headlines that Pelosi’s democrats are panicking. They are controlled by something evil and that evil entity is serious about getting both Trump and Pence in any way possible. IOW it is indeed a real coup in process. I posted the arms confiscation in Virginia is not unrelated.
In short, this is not over by a long shot but a Senate deadline would limit the time available to enforce extortion and blackmail on Senate members. It’s a good move.

Yes, I believe the Virginia 2A stuff was manufactured quickly as a Plan D, or E, or F...whatever they are at. It may escalate quickly, and I bet derps are positioned within the ranks of those supporting their Constitutional Right to create a FF.
I think we are all missing the elephant in the room. Schiff classified some interviews of his alleged witnesses. He has refused transcripts of the interviews. I believe Trump is entitled to everything as this impeached him. Semantics are not going to help. Trump needs this information. Any court will give him same. Something is amiss here. Why are Team Trump avoiding this information?
I need to dig up the story about Nancy and Lil’ Adam SCIF taking a full contingent of staff and family out of the country, an “As the World Turns” plot was afoot for both Trump and Pence, and Trump spoiled it all by cancelling all gubmint flights they were using. This caused Nancy’s bus to turn around and go home. IIRC, Nancy was to have returned to the US in triumph as President. Was this fantasy or an actual conspiracy?
