A Broward County father and daughter claimed the government owed them $175 million in tax refunds on their lottery winnings. The IRS paid them $3.4 million before the agency realized the pair had never purchased a winning ticket, prosecutors say.
Now, the pair, who say theyre aboriginal indigenous Moorish Americans immune to government authority, are on trial in a Palm Beach federal courtroom accused of tax fraud.
Court documents allege that Danielle Takeila Edmonson, 35, of Boynton, and Kenneth Roger Edmonson, 51, of Oakland Park, began filing a series of bogus tax returns in 2015. RELATED: Man gets 40 years for fake legal filings »
That year, prosecutors allege, Danielle Edmonson claimed an unspecified amount of lottery winnings, and managed to get the IRS to pay her $239,700. With her allegedly ill-gotten refunds, Danielle Edmonson bought a BMW and took out $60,000 from the bank in cash.
The following year, the woman who court filings describe as a masters in business graduate decided to ask the IRS to pay her over $80 million in returns on over $141 million of supposed income.
Your demand has no legal validity and is not payable through any federal agency," the IRS replied in a letter quoted in court documents. Your scheme appears to be akin to a fraud."
But the revenue services remonstrance didnt slow Dainelle Edmonson. The following year, 2016, she got almost $2.5 million out of the agency in what prosecutors allege are fraudulent filings. And the following year, 2017, she asked for $9 million.

Well, that’s one way to defend abortion...
Apparently, he fathered her when he was 15 or 16.
“defend” = DEFUND!
dollars to donuts she learned this little game from somebody...and then didn’t give them “their” cut.
there’s more to this story-and I guarandamteeya it started on Bammy’s watch and has its own little “constituency” “laundering” their proceeds back to somebodies that help make it happen and keep it happenin.
Indeed it seems someone should have checked the facts behind such a claim.
This reminds me of a old story we heard in business school where someone bought a new car and the bank gave them a payment booklet with 48 monthly stubs. On the first payment due, they sent in the check with the last stub in the booklet. From this, they received a computerized thank you for paying off their loan along with clear title to their new car. LOL
This was many years ago, but I assume the bank eventually caught this in an audit.
How is this even possible to do?
Itisnt an honor system. You gotta have some proof of your claims.
Meanwhile igot a nastygram from them over an unclaimed $1.37 in interest from a forgotten credit union account.
How did they get away with any of this?
I am confused. Lottery winners pay taxes on their winnings. The IRS collects the taxes on winnings. As far as I know the IRS does not hold lotteries paying out money.
So how in the world did this scam work at all? In what situation would the IRS issue a refund to someone for winning a lottery?
Eat Moor Chikin..
If they issue me a 1099, I am going to do it anyway just because I don't want the hassle . . . but, still!
You cant fix STUPID my gosh they got almost 2 million YET they didnt find a spot out of the country with a low cost of living what IDIOTS!!!
You and me both.
“How can I get me an aboriginal indigenous Mo”
.....
Well for starters, you gotta have high cheek bones. ....
It is also laughingly considered to be a “voluntary” tax system.
Apparently my privileged white history classes missed telling me that the Moors were indigenous to North America.
From the looks of that woman, I doubt that she even knows who the Moors were.
