Keep W7

After January, make sure you have a decent malware product on it. Microsoft updates and support are overrated when the OS is many years old. It’s basically already tuned and well patched. I ran XP for 4 years after end-of-support with no problems.

I just uninstalled a free 30 day trial of Malwarebytes because it kept knocking my sound card out of existence.

I posted a month ago because I had lost my sound card (red X, not found) and it drove me crazy.

I started looking around for wtf and decided it was a freebie anyway (Malwarebytes) and No problems at all

Apparently conflict with my Comcast, free Norton's (or something)

I knew going in there MIGHT be conflicts and sure enough ... there was

Agreed. But to a point. Eventually, you won't be able to find programs that will run on Win7 (upgrade or new).

I ran XP for a year or so and ran into problems with certain programs. I found a cheap upgrade to windows 7 and upgraded to win7.

My computer's hardware is so old now that being compatible with win10 might be difficult if not impossible. S

o I will probably keep the win7 machine and buy a new machine. I might turn the win7 machine into a Linux server or just run Linux desktop.

It’s basically already tuned and well patched.

And, you won't have to deal with screwed up Microsoft updates and screwed up updates of updates.

I agree. I am keeping W7 on my machines indefinitely. The fact that Microsoft will not support it is irrelevant. I have not needed their support for years. Anti virus support is available from several sources.
