I've been to China...several times. The clearest day I ever saw there was 10 times worse that the worst day I ever saw in the LA Basin,the Tri-State Area (NYC) or the Ruhr Valley (Germany's industrial heartland).
Limited range. Hours to “fill up”. High cost of ownership. And, apparently quite hazardous if involved in a collision.

This proves that electric vehicles cannot compete with ICE unless you subsidize them heavily.
Currently, Pelosi/Schumer are scheming to extend and increase US subsidies for electric vehicles....mostly benefitting the wealthy who buy Teslas, Porsche and BMW electrics.
Most of these tax rebates go to California....go figure.
Every US car manufacturer is running full speed into the wood chipper of electric vehicles.
Rebates in the US are ending. Democrats hope to extend them and increase them because that is the only way electric vehicles will sell against ICE (internal combustion engine).
Most of the rebates go to the wealthy for vehicles above $70,000 in price and should be unnecessary.
However, as US auto manufacturers chase this wet dream, they will spend billions for no return. Their only hope is a Democratic administration, House and Senate that can mandate and subsidize electrics, like they do in Europe.
Technology marches on. Many electric cars are better/cheaper than many gasoline cars. Soon, most electric cars will be better/cheaper than most gasoline cars.
There was a time when you could argue for steam power.
The one major hurdle I’m watching is heating the compartment in cold weather. They’ll have to come up with something to sell cars in the northern half of the USA.
There are few things so nice on a cold day as when the free heat starts pouring out.
