Moderates?!?
Sorry, but a moderate position will not do.
They just got done saying that Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is has a very strong Pro-Life position. He is not a moderate. The voters see his position, and know that he has left himself no wriggle room. They believe him when he says he is Pro-Life, because he asserts it forcefully. That is why he succeeds.
Compare that to the prototypical "moderate" Democrat. Every voter will see the moderate position as political calculation and triangulation, and will be absolutely sure that the "moderate" Democrat will fall in line, and support the Pro-Abortion position when it really counts.
Moderates have no credibility at all, nor should they.
Abortion is a core value. It is not winning if they give up a core value. It's not like compromising on the tax rates or something along those lines.
Their other core value is sodomy, but don't call it that or they have a temper tantrum.
