Sadly the commuter trains in our metro area are used as a device for suicide way too often. Wait for the train, step out on the track, whack.

Selfish pricks. Go kill yourself without making someone else do it and suffer that bad experience of doing it for you.

Here in Calgary, at least three deaths a year due to accidents involving people and the ‘C-Train’. In such an event, in no case has the person come out ahead of the train. Very few have been suicides but there are many Darwin Award contestants.

It is a poorly designed system. Instead of above grade, much of the system is at grade. Most of these people were too focused on their cell phones and headphones to even look for the train. I pity the driver of the C-Train.

Back in 2012, I had taken METRO out to the far south of Arlington to a theater for a movie. As the movie ended and I walked back to the platform to return home....some guy two stops down jumped in front of the train. They shut down everything for four hours.

I’ll bet in the 3.5 years I was in the DC area....there must have been over 15 individuals who ‘jumped’.
