Women, especially in Canada, are more ignorant of politics and current affairs than men... (2013)
The National Post ^ | 7/2/2013 | Joseph Brean

In a finding sure to inflame the gender wars, research funded by the U.K. government suggests women around the world, and especially in Canada, are significantly more ignorant of current affairs and politics than men.

This gender gap is constant across countries as diverse as the U.S., Greece, Japan and Australia. It is as clear in Colombia, where most people scored very low on tests about current news events, as it is in Norway, where knowledge is generally high. It is as evident in the U.K. and U.S., where gender equality is well established in the culture, as it is in Japan and South Korea, where it is not.

That is, at least, according to the British report, which found consumption of news is “very much a masculine action, particularly in Canada, Norway, U.K. and U.S.”

The mystery of what causes this alleged knowledge gap is the “extraordinary question at the heart of this study,” said the lead author, James Curran, professor of communications at Goldsmiths, University of London, and director of the Goldsmiths Leverhulme Media Research Centre.

“I think it’s because public affairs is indeed dominated by men. It may be that there is also patriarchal bias, but it isn’t possible to determine whether reality is being distorted or whether it is merely being reflected,” he said in an interview.

Donna Reed was a devout Republican until her son became of draft age. She switched parties and supported Eugene McCarthy in '68. She was specifically worried that her son might have to go to Vietnam.

She typifies the American female who is led more by her hormones and emotions than by logic.

We made a big mistake in allowing women to vote. An even bigger mistake allowing them to hold public office.

This article is over six years old and therefore useless at this time!

I am of the opinion that given the present current of political correctness, a recreation of this dated study would not be allowed.

I say post it, use it, refer to it, and when challenged as to the age of the data, ask that the experiment be redone.

And give FULL details of whom they asked: age, where the interviewees live, socio-economic status, education level reached, political affiliation, registered to vote or not, etc.!

Without the above info...this and all other studies are useless.

“Donna Reed was a devout Republican until her son became of draft age. She switched parties...”

Yep. Today, we have devout Christians until their child ‘comes out’ as homosexual. They switch belief...

The 1910’s were bad, brought upon us the Federal Reserve, 17A & 19A.

Lots of parents of Transgender kids, after looking into how and why did this happen, are really upset about the liberals now. Although they still don’t like Trump. (”I guess I’ll be skipping the next election.”)

“The 1910’s were bad, brought upon us the Federal Reserve, 17A & 19A.”

Don’t forget the 16th amendment, (ratified in 1913) which is probably the worst of all.

Yes! Before the 1913 income tax, tariffs supported the fed gov.

I think many women live under a false delusion of security under the assumption that most people are basically good.

I know myself I’ve seen other stories saying the same thing, too.

This is a paper on the subject, in which the apparently liberal author tries to deal with this finding, which he admits has been well-substantiated by research.

And then there was the news that Satan delivered to Eve that she believed was true, too, because it sounded right to her.

Correct. As the old adage goes, figures can lie and liars can figure.

I appreciate your candor. Women are wired for survival. The security and comfort of their families and homes are more important to women than the security of the nation. After a war, the women of both/all parties, with no husbands, mate with the victors when they run out of their own countrymen.

It’s God’s design, and I have to go along that He knows best.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, the author does all kinds of mental gymnastics trying to explain what is repeatedly found.
