HOA sues retired Texas City couple for up to $100,000 for flower beds that don’t meet guidelines

A property owner’s association is suing a retired Texas City couple for thousands of dollars over a dispute about flower beds that did not meet the HOA’s guidelines.

Klaas and Dorothy Tadema moved into the Lago Mar neighborhood after their Dickinson home flooded during Hurricane Harvey.

The Tademas said they installed flower beds on the property in November 2018. They said they were notified by the HOA in March 2019 that their home improvements did not meet the association’s guidelines, which the HOA calls “covenants.”

The retired couple filed an application along with the $25 fee to get the improvements approved. That application was rejected.

Among other violations, the HOA says the plants don't hide the foundation.

Sorry, Dorothy, the HOA is the overlord of your property. Never ever move into an HOA.

This is why I would never buy a home under control of a HOA. They typically are dominated by busybody nitwits.

HOAs are poison - you give control over your property to a committee of local busy bodies.

HOAs as an entity must die 1000 deaths.

In before the FReepers that love their HOA;

You know, the ones who prefer security over freedom, the ones who want everyone in their neighborhood to march in lockstep with everyone else.

Keeps their property values higher, dontcha know.

We do alot of contracting work in HOA neighborhoods. The properties look the best and the home values are usually the highest.

HOA’s can be overbearing bit so can sloppy, loud neighbors.

A coupe of observations.

The plants are not full grown. Will they eventually cover the foundation?

Why not just pile up pine straw 4 inches next to the house to cover the foundation.

Your property value is not your neighbor’s concern.

Busybody nitwits.. No truer words have been spoken! It's usually just one person who is a self-proclaimed "bigshot" suffering from dementia. The rest are those who just go along to get along.. and others who try to reign in the little Dictator.. then after a couple of years, quit in disgust.

No it doesn't. Property values in West Berlin were always higher than their counterparts in East Berlin before the wall came down.

Stupid Freepers and their property values impinging upon my God-given right to leave rusty transmissions laying in my front yard and run a 24/7/365 garage sale out of my driveway!

Your property value is not your neighbor’s concern.

Nobody held a gun to my neighbor and made him sign a HOA contract. He enjoyed the freedom to find a home somewhere else.

But he signed the contract, as did the rest of us, so he'd better abide by the terms. It becomes my concern when my pocket is getting picked.

. Never ever move into an HOA.

When administered properly, an HOA is a necessity. I have lived under one for 18 years and all they have done is good for the complex.

It's not loaded with busy bodies who are ultimately the sources of these problems.

The problem with HOA's is that the only people willing to run for office are the left wing anal retentive nazis who want to control everything by the book.

With that being said, your HOA is only as good as the people you elect to the board. There is no way in hell this couple would have been attacked by the board members in my complex and would have likely been celebrated for attention to their property........

Heck, we have old tractor parts and truck tires all over the front yard.

and three cars up on blocks.

people get fussy sometimes.
