A majority of Germans say they would consider scaling down their Christmas lights to protect the climate, a survey released on Sunday said.
A total of 57% of those surveyed said they would reduce Christmas lighting or even do without it in the future, according to the survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of the German news agency DPA.
Of the respondents, 11% said they would make do without any lights this year due to climate concerns, while 10% said they would do so in the future. But 35% said turning off the lights was not an option for them.
Opinion is split on whether there should be fewer lights on buildings and in the streets in general, with 44% both for and against the idea.
Having lights up during the festive season is appreciated by a large majority of 79% in Germany. Almost seven out of 10 people surveyed plan to decorate their homes with electric Christmas lights this year.

LED Christmas lights must not be available in Germany? Like plastic straws and plastic bags that almost everyone uses, they need to make sure the climate [hoax] cause is furthered by keeping everyone spending the few minutes we have on this earth discussing / giving credence to their issue... as a way to gain its acceptance and implementation through government control, run by them of course.
Or is it to make their new bearded and burkaed guests feel welcome?
Maybe its because Germany has the highest electric rates in Europe at 35 cents per kWh.
I’d like a projection of the old Enterprise bridge’s monitor going through space for my office.
Nowadays most Xmas lists are LEDs.
They use way less energy than the old incandescents and are much more reliable also. Win-win.
Not because of a hoax, but because they are islamophobic.
I’ve been expecting this for some time: a leftist crackdown on Christmas lights, Christmas trees, perhaps even Christmas cards and gift-giving, all in the name of saving the environment. The real motive will be to push Christmas and Christians further into the shadows.
I thought Ramadan was calculated according to the cycles of the moon, and hence rotated throughout the entire year, or at least several months of it, something like the way Easter moves around over a period of several weeks.
It is, but it still generally falls between the spring and summer, and nowhere near December when the Nation of Islam has their “Ramadan fast”.
I guess my neighbor can put more lights on his house. He has everything encased with lights......His light bill in December is the highest of the year...
Ramadan car burnings are ok though
I think it might be working. I’ve noticed it’s getting steadily colder over the last couple of months.
Well, if you really want to be picky about the parsing, the 57% includes people who would “scale back” their lights. So the results are plausible if a large slice of those putting up Christmas lights would also be willing to use fewer of them. But yeah, I hear you...seems a bit conflicted.
Irony: Most of what we consider the celebratory traditions of Christmas have been imported from Germanic lands courtesy of Prince Albert (of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), and thence to America.
“Protect the climate”
lol
What is that even supposed to mean?
Total word salad.
I don’t know how it matters, my Mother spoke to her sister in Germany today and her sister told her that they periodically turn off the electricity and it’s an ongoing thing not like here in California where they cut power on high fire risk days.
LED lights are 80 percent more efficient than conventional lighting and (unlike compact fluorescents containing mercury) have no toxic components.
Let the the idiot Germans turn off their Christmas lights, who cares. Most of them dont believe in Christ, anyway.
Good idea. They should make something you can download into.
Of course, this has nothing to do with them bowing down to their muzzy invaders. To quote a German guy who loved Christmas - they will not change what Germany is. Yeah, how’s that working out for you?
Years ago I was at the home of a Hungarian friend who had real candles on the tree. It was lovely, but not something I would do. I had visions of a flaming tree the entire time.
