The singer had a blood alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit and was driving 102 mph when her vehicle collided with two other cars on September 4, the Taos County Sheriffs Office said in a news release, citing an investigation.
Harris was driving while impaired on a highway when her vehicle struck another car, according to the statement. Harris vehicle then crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a second car, killing 16-year-old Maria Cruz, police said.
The teenage victims father, Pedro Cruz, was among the first responders at the scene, according to the Dallas Morning News. Hes deputy chief of the San Cristobal Fire Department.
Police also used data from the cars on-board computers to determine her speed was 102 miles per hour at the time of the first crash and 95 miles per hour when her vehicle collided with Cruzs car.
Harris, 30, left behind a young daughter, Corbie, for whom she wrote a song featured on her EP called Twenty Years from Now.

It scared me thinking that it was totally possible I could be gone before my daughter reaches that point, she said. I want to meet my kids kids. Getting to the age your parents were when you were a child brings a whole lot of perspective.
She added: Parents are people. People make mistakes and being a parent is hard. Im not always going to make the right choices, but I hope that when Corbie gets older shell see that they were all made with love and the best of intentions.
Apparently she realized she could not handle prosperity well.
Kylie Rae Harris Is no longer a country singer, she is a murderer and POS.
Very sad. She left a lot of people grieving.
Maybe a couple roads in the area (not sure which road she was on) that you can drive that fast but not a good plan. Of course when you’re drunk you can drive as fast as you want anyplace, anytime. Sad for the young lady she killed along with herself.
Wow. Fun girl.
Most mortals would be passed out in a pool of their own urine at this level. She was operating a car.
Can’t fix stupid. As I get older I prefer activities and people who are safe. We all have an obligation to live 80 years no matter how miserable. If it takes 79 to get it right that’s what it takes. These things will happen and it’s up to all of us to deal with stupid in out pwn way even our own.
Sad for the 16 yo she killed. The teen girl appeared to be from a working class family, life and dreams ahead of her.
Sad all around.
What you can’t drive when your blood is 28 percent alcohol?
> Kylie Rae Harris Is no longer a country singer, she is a murderer and POS.
Thats harsh. It is also very correct.
In vino veritas. The cautious become more cautious. The reckless become more reckless. Unfortunately for her and her victim, she fell in the second category.
Behavior that represented someone who was very immature at 30 years old; acting more like a very stupid 13 year old.
Another case of “fame” and money too early, and never really maturing after that??
WIKI:
Harris had a drunk driving conviction from 2017. As part of her conviction, she was ordered to have an ignition interlock device installed in her car.
Country Singer, Local Teen Killed In Drunk-Driving Crash
That wasn’t difficult at all.
I remember feeling sad for her when I first heard of the story. She was 30 years old. No excuse for such recklessness.
It is the victim and her family I have the compassion for now.
Not snarking the OP. Just what passes for headline writing by reporters these days.
Decisions/Bad Decisions BUMP! Try to minimize the BAD ones. Life is wonderful.
