Mike Norvell celebrated the best season in Memphis history and the program’s first American Athletic Conference championship with the No. 16 Tigers, all the while deflecting questions about his next job.
There’s plenty of time to focus on Florida State on Sunday, when two people with knowledge of the decision say the Seminoles will introduce Norvell as their coach. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.

Some fairly ugly rumors about this hire.
Last Tuesday, FSU setup for a new conference, painted the field, had the podium put in place, chairs arranged everything was all set to introduce the new coach...
The rumors were rampant that Bob Stoops was going to be named Head Coach...
Obviously those rumors were false, earlier in the day the FSU President and AD were going to announce that hiring of long time assistant and interim head coach Odell Haggins as the new permanent coach...
A numbers of big boosters withdrew their support and the new conference never happened and Haggins was not named the new coach....
The ugly part is the old coach Willie Taggart was black, Odell Haggins is black and that race played a big role in Haggins not getting the job....
I had been told by friends in Tally that Odell was offered the head coaching position three times and turned it down.
Just so long as Taggart is gone. What a disaster he’s been for the Criminoles.
I have no idea what the truth is, but it certainly looked like they were getting ready for an announcement but nothing happened which lends credence that something happened at the last minute.
The other thing that happened was the President of FSU sending out a message asking boosters to contribute 20% more to help make up a revenue shortfall
Norvell has been repeatedly passed over for bigger jobs the last couple years because of some serious skeletons in the closet. The rumors speak of coeds and gambling. It’s only a matter of time before that stuff comes out at a higher profile program like fsu which draws a lot more attention than Memphis.

I plainly said they were rumors. Just do an internet search and you can find them mentioned all over the internet.
