Terrill Frantz, a cybersecurity associate professor at Harrisburg University, compares smart TVs to your smartphone.
TVs on the market now have the ability to connect to the internet. Theyre equipped with cameras, microphones, and in some cases, facial recognition technology.
How easy is it for somebody to hack into a smart TV, I asked. Well, presently, its fairly easy, answered Frantz.
The FBI says smart TVs are often poorly secured by their manufacturers, compared to computers or smartphones. Experts say cyber-criminals can hack in and change channels, play with the volume, and in a worst-case scenario, watch and listen to you.

But don’t worry, the FBI would never spy on you...

That isn’t a bug, it’s a designed feature. Just ask Samsung.
Be seeing you.
Shocking, how about Alexa? Oh yeah, by the way, NO ONE SAW THIS COMING.
We’ve still got dumb boob tubes.
Don’t wanna spy...er, smart one.
This is why we put clear tape over the camera and never agreed to the T’s and C’s regarding turning on the microphone. i.e. it would be lawsuit time if LG allowed anyone to use our microphone.
Every night, between 10 PM and 7 AM, my Toshiba Smart-TV does a Red-to-Green-to-Red blinking thing...about every 30 to 45 minutes, for 10 seconds. Doesn’t matter if the TV is on, or off.
You think that the Chinese are listening in?
It is likely the Ukranians attempting mind control to influence the next election.
The FIB is too busy protecting congress & politicians to bother with the average schmuck glued to their TeeVees
Dave: Alexa, Is my smart TV spying on me?
Alexa: I’m sorry Dave, I can not answer that.

Good one!
The news is more than a decade old, and the same FBI called people who said this in the past “conspiracy theorists”. Finally they admit what the rest of world already knew.
Maybe they will tell us next that the grass is really green, the sky is blue and water is really wet?
I guess they wanted to maintain some credibility by admitting this well known fact. Although the credibility train left a long time ago.
Yep. Put black tape over EVERYTHING, or unplug it, or don’t buy it...
Man... this country is absolutely stupid with what they will accept just to have bigger and better TOYS than everyone else they “just can’t live without”... lol
I like the Gibb’s method of turning off electronics.. i.e. pull the plug
Nothing a well placed dab of silicone won’t cure....
I take pause these days before believing anything the FBI reports ... sad to say!
