I saw article about poor crop of potatoes this year—hence possible French fry shortage.

That's gotta be some kind of code or satire. I've never bought imported French Fries in my life.

The French in French fries refers to the cut of the potato and not the country of origin. They originated in Belgium. FWIW - The eat their fries with mayonnaise instead of ketchup.

The cut is known as a Julienne. It is referred to as the allumette (matchstick) cut when used on potatoes.

A shortage of potatoes caused by Global Cooling.

The US is fighting a french-fry shortage because it's been so cold that farmers are struggling to harvest their potatoes
