Even the Portland Press Herald felt the need to tell its readers that Van Buren is 320 miles from Portland. A few years ago I drove up through Bangor got on rte 9 and crossed over into Canada at Calais ME.
Van Buren is even farther north than Calais and would be out of the way for most people in Maine.
From Bangor to Calais I saw some real undeveloped forest. -Tom
