Maine man dies after being shot by his own booby trap

On Thursday evening, the Van Buren Police Department dispatched officers to the home of Ronald Cyr, 65, who reported that he had been shot, according to officials.

Officer Chandler Madore and the Van Buren Ambulance Service arrived to provide medical assistance to Cyr, and discovered that the front door of Cyr's home had been "outfitted with a device designed to fire a handgun should anyone attempt to enter the door," according to a press release.

Thanks ... I did miss that tidbit. I was in Maine for 2 weeks in September, but not that far up. Beautiful country.

Even the Portland Press Herald felt the need to tell its readers that Van Buren is 320 miles from Portland.

A few years ago I drove up through Bangor got on rte 9 and crossed over into Canada at Calais ME.
Van Buren is even farther north than Calais and would be out of the way for most people in Maine.

From Bangor to Calais I saw some real undeveloped forest. -Tom
