“strong winds and snow.”
Why would they take off in weather like that.
I heard that they cancelled 100 flights in Denver today because of the wind. And delayed many more
Blizzard conditions here all day. Cannot believe they tried to fly in this weather.
Oh no! I’m a South Dakota native. Awful news. :(
Pilot to Passengers: “Don’t worry about that foot of snow on the wings it’ll blow off once we take off.
About a mile from the takeoff site. Not enough runway speed, most likely. A common cause of stall at low altitude.
Looked at Argus Leader in Sioux Falls (Bad website) That plane should never have left the ground.
I am a high hour commercial pilot, strong winds and snow means you keep your ass on the ground.
Same aircraft type that brought so much pleasure to former Senator Claire McCaskill.
RIP.
Reminds me of “The Day The Music Died”.
Buddy Holley, The Big Hopper, Richie Valens.
On February 3, 1959, American rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and “The Big Bopper” J. P. Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, together with pilot Roger Peterson.
I lived in Chamberlain and Fort Thompson for most of the 90’s. Worked at Mid Dakota Hospital. Knew the community well. My heart aches. Prayers to all affected.
Strong wind and snow
Uh, no thanks, Ill wait
Nine dead in Brule County plane crash, two men identified by family friends
Prayers to their families! Rest in peace...
I have about 4K hrs in the PC-12. Many of the facts arent known yet but generally the type of airplane is irrelevant in these cases. Professionally we are paid to fly safely between point A and point B but were also paid to say NO when its warranted. Given the plane was overloaded with 12 people and likely contaminated on takeoff I think this will end up on pilot judgment.
Update:
The nine people killed in Saturday’s plane crash in South Dakota were all part of the same extended Idaho family.
Jim and Kirk Hansen, the founders of the wellness company Kyani, lost their lives in the crash, according to company president Travis Garza. He said the crash also killed their father, Jim Hansen Sr.; Kirk Hansens children, Stockton and Logan; his sons-in-law, Kyle Taylor and Tyson Dennert; and Jim Hansens son, Jake, and grandson, Houston.
Three family members survived the crash and were hospitalized.
