Dishwashers that actually wash dishes & toilets that actually flush are not a bad thing....
There’s another perk besides energy. Those energy efficient appliances are under-powered and over burdened, leading to reduced utility life. Allowing more power means the appliances will last longer. You’ll get 10 or 15 years from a refrigerator or a washer instead of 5.
NEXT DO THE ‘LOW FLOW” TOILETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many plumbing and sanitation problems are caused by this?
Market Watch stopped being a reliable source of any relevant news 2 decades ago.
So nice that MarketWatch is concerned about how much we spend on energy.
How about we let the MARKET decide? Have the manufacturers make BOTH types of dishwashers? Model A can dry in 2-1/2 hours and cost 10 cents to run. Model B can dry in 1 hour and cost 12 cents to run. Then the CONSUMER can decide which is best for them.
I never understood how a machine that takes over twice as long to run with a weaker heating element would cost less to run than a machine that dries more quickly with a stronger heating element. It defies common sense.
I can just see the pointed-headed academics at DOE rubbing their hands with glee and musing “This will really bug those deplorables! We’ll make their dishwashers run REALLY long for no improvement in anything.”
Last dishwasher we had in the 90s worked great and lasted forever. The one we bought 5 years ago is crap. Doesn’t work half as well
connection??
Only Marxistwatch could come up with a headline as stupid as this. I honestly don't know how anybody could possibly be solvent if they followed the advice of Marxistwatch. I don't think any of the people who comment there, or write articles for them have ever invested a single dime in the stock market.
Exactly how does one "invest" in communism, which is what they advocate?
Idiots. You can still buy more efficient ones if you want.
“now they take an average of two and a half hours and STILL leave dishes dirty”
I recently replaced mine. The owner’s manual actually says the slower run time is like driving your car at slower speeds to conserve gas, as if you only have so much electricity available to clean the dishes before you run out! Baffling logic there. Must be the new PC “science”.
California is attacking the problem at both ends: no water, and no electricity. Some people might try to switch to disposable paper plates, but that would require logging and industrial production. Finger foods are the only solution.
I also use the “speed cycle” which cleans them better and faster. Probably due to the water heater maintaining hot water temp throughout the entire cycle.
I am wondering if one of the trade offs from cleaning with greater speed is sound.
My fairly new dishwasher cleans fine and is so quiet I barely hear it during most of it’s cycles. It was not the cheapest one available nor the most expensive.
Low flow toilets have got to “go” pun intended.
The market will decide what is best in cases of dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers etc. Get gov’t out.
