Is it nearly time for Homer Simpson's last "D'oh?" The Simpsons could be coming to an end, according to the animated hit's theme music composer Danny Elfman.
"From what I've heard, it is coming to an end I don't know for a fact, but I've heard that it will be in its last year," Elfman told the website Joe.ie.
The Simpsons is currently in its 31st season on Fox and was renewed in February for a record-setting 32nd season due to air in the 2020-21 television season. If Elfman is right, that means the show could go off air in two years.
A Fox publicist could not immediately be reached for comment.

There was a Principal Skinner episode where it Jumped The Shark.
Danny Elfman is at least somewhat conservative, just read the lyrics to “Capitalism”, it nailed the snowflakes, long before “snowflake” became a thing.
I just need to spend more time with my family.
I still think this is the best thing they ever did...

(Cause those liberal freaks go too faaaar!)
I had never thought about it but I think you are right.
I used to like “Smallville” despite it’s obvious PC moments but Season 7 seemed to be the end. It lasted one or two more seasons but I had quit watching by then.
Like M*A*S*H lasted three times as long as The Korean War.
She had to leave because of illness and died while the show was still on the air, so this was probably taken after that.
Seven years is about how long I watched The Simpsons after the series debuted. I laughed heartily during every episode. I loved the show.
And then I just stopped watching it and haven't watched it since. It wasn't a conscious decision, a boycott, or anything of the sort. I just stopped watching it.
Youre lucky. I stuck it out and the ninth season had the requisite illegal alien episode (the guy hiring them was murdering them and Clark x-rayed a field full of skeletons) and the tenth was anti-military, anti-Christian, with an evil conservative talk show host version of New God character Glorious Godfrey. That tenth season soured me on the whole series and I never want to see it again.
Wow. Thats a long time to have a box in the corner of your room that does nothing.
That show about illegal aliens must have been in the 6th season.
It was really, really obnoxious. Simply an hour long commercial supporting their invasion.
There were some hot girls in it. Seems like the 7th season had less of Kristin Kreuk tho I am not sure.
Jumped the shark about 13 years ago...only thing I watch is the couch gag...
I have never watched The Simpsons.
No boxes.
I have several different brands of electronic book readers though. And I listen to music.
And some boardgames and cardgames - I would rather sit and talk with people about our families, jobs, and travels than watch a show with them.
Or just go fishing.
Growing up, I was always wondered what they were doing in the water tank.
“Television ended when they took off Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies.”
Andy Griffith, Gilligan’s Island, McKale’s Navy, Munsters, the list goes on.
Never watched the show.
Like ‘Friends,’ the ‘Simpsons’ never seemed to have any draw on me.
I considered missing shows such as those a blessing.
That’s when it was fresh. I haven’t really followed the show since the 10th season which was about 20 years ago.
Haha. Didn’t realize you’ve been a freeper since 2001.
I had no choice. I had four small kids who loved the show. I was pretty funny, but made men and dads look like idiots and families look like nut houses.
IMO, it’s only value (now) is its historical significance in the ongoing attack on men, especially fathers, and families.
