It’s finally time for the Iron Bowl, the time of year when the state of Alabama splits in two and the rest of the world tunes in ready to watch the chaos. This year there’s plenty of reason to expect the unexpected. Bama’s Mac Jones will be making the biggest start of his life with a possible Playoff spot on the line, and if you know Gus Malzahn, you know he has something up his sleeveless sweater vest to spring on the Bama defense.

But who should you root for if you’re an impartial observer? We made it easy for you with this list of 20 reasons it’s better to be an Auburn fan than an Alabama fan. Don’t worry Bama fans, your list is coming soon.

As someone who grew up as a J-E-T-S and Mets fan I sympathize with the Little Brother teams. “Rooting for the YankeesAlabama is like rooting for General MotorsMicrosoft."

I don’t agree Auburn has a prettier campus it certainly doesn’t have as many pretty coeds although it’s no slouch

Alabama rivals Ole Miss in girl factor

And everyone loves Sweet Home Alabama

Was this written by a PC yankee?

I do agree it’s easy to be a fan of a team that wins all the time

Anyhow I’m an ole miss grad but we’re an LSU house

In FRANKLIN TN

Alabama grad, Auburn grad, and a Tennessee grad were together in a bar drinking...

They all had to go to the restroom...

When they finished, the Alabama grad wen to the sink, turned the hot water on full force, soaped up to his elbows and rinsed...He looked at the other two and said “At Alabama, they taught us “cleanliness”...

The Auburn grad went to the sink and turned just a trickle of water on, just dabbed his fingertips with soap and rinsed...he looked at the other two and said “At Auburn, they taught us “thriftiness”...

The Tennessee grad looked at them both and started out the door...He looked back and said “At Tennessee, they taught us not to piss on our hands.”...

What a nice town Franklin is. I visited there when I drove across country on I-40. I wanted to see the Franklin battle field site.

My 2 favorite college teams are Syracuse and any team that beats Auburn. 1987 Sugar Bowl, 3rd. and goal from the 11, 4 seconds remain, Auburn kicks a field goal for the tie robbing Syracuse of a perfect 12 h 0 season, and an argument for the national championship. The Auburn Coach robbed his own boys a chance for a win.

I remember that game. Everyone though a northeast team could not compete with the SEC champ. Darly “Moose” Johnson was the FB for the Orange.

And everyone loves Sweet Home Alabama

I don't like that song. Alabama Stomp would be a much better choice.

Both schools are full of beautiful girls.

Around 1971 I was in Tuscaloosa competing in a large college track meet. I walked around the field house and it seemed to be full of ghosts.

There were pictures on the walls of Alabama greats going way back. I was surprised how many Alabama players made it to the majors and a lot played for Detroit.

Our coach was an Auburn grad and I have been there competing and watching., many times. I still have a few orange ribbons somewhere which allowed me to be on the indoor track.

Auburn has always been a worthy opponent of Bama.

The SEC is full of schools that dads of pretty daughters are happy to send them to.

They are far more traditional socially and politically than many others, even in or near the South (the core SEC schools, ie NOT Missouri). Dads can expect their daughters to meet a man deserving of their daughters attention and perhaps affection.

IMHO, as the father of a beautiful former co-ed.

“Sweet Home Alabama” is an anti-Nixon song, so Democrats love it.

Troy alum here.

This is Troy’s worst team in many years. Just got beat by Louisiana Lafayette 53-3. Worst conference beating in 118 years.
