A wall text notes, Gauguin undoubtedly exploited his position as a privileged Westerner [in French Polynesia] to make the most of the sexual freedoms available to him.
I’m a bit confused. I know nothing of “sexual freedom” in French Polynesia, but what I’m getting at is, was that culture more open about sex, and he was part of that culture? Did he rape or force anyone, I think is the bottom line. If he was involved in consenting relationships, that didn’t violate any laws, that’s very different than use of force.
And what are the criteria in these situations anyway? The left did not take seriously any charges of assault against Bill Clinton, yet had a meltdown over a completely consensual situation with Trump and Stormy Daniels. How is it, that sometimes, the leftist view is that there is nothing to see here, and in other cases, the left act fire and brimstone preachers about sexual morality issues?
