I had High Contrast and inverted colors selected on Xp (and Win ‘95 even) a year and a half ago when I could not see (seeing fine now, thanks.)

There is even a “magnifier” that can be turned on in Xp.

A built in screen-reading app, for one, as well as a Braile reader interface. More color-filters, in addition to the high contrast screens previously available in earlier version. MS has a whole web page dedicated to it.

Glad to hear that your seeing well now! I'm really nervous, as my eye doctor just told me that I'm in the very early stages of Macular Degeneration. So I'm taking Preservision to hopefully hold it off.
