As a former reader of The Orlando Sentinel, I remember Charley Reese well. Before 1989 he was the strongest supporter of Israel that any Zionist could hope for. Then he suddenly reversed his stance, and was pro-PLO, anti-Israel after that. Finally he retired from The Orlando Sentinel in the summer of 2001, just a few weeks before 9/11, so I never heard his views on that tragedy.

Charley's change on Israel and the Palestinians was so abrupt and complete that I suspected he was replaced by an imposter. So pray tell, which Charley Reese did the quote in the puzzle come from?

Not sure what happened with Reese, to be honest. While I generally try to source quotations from constitutionalists whenever possible (other than showcasing outrageous quotes from decidedly NON-costitutionalists, like Che Guevara), the quote itself is what matters.

In any case, I went back to the Wikipedia page where I sourced basic information to create the bio snippet of the puzzle. Curiously, I saw nothing with regard to Reese's position, which is where I would imagine would have been prominent, as it would indicate an acceptance of a very Leftist position by a conservative. Even the talk page was devoid of any indication to Reese's Israel position.

I did see the last article, in which Reese cited a "new generation of Israeli historians," and used the term "Zionist," a term which most conservative Westerners do not use as outside the scholastic reference is generally meant as a smear against Jewish individuals and organizations; in most cases, using the term in this way is synonymous with "anti-Semitism." I am puzzled, so if you have links to more details on Reese's anti-semitism, I'd appreciate it.

(NOTE: As a rule, I don't source Wikipedia itself, but the citations in which the Wiki articles are created, if I need documentable corroboration for anything. Keep in mind that the main staff contrlling the editorializing on Wikipedia is decidedly communist. But for bio snippets, I generally don't need them.)
