In the wake of Terminator: Dark Fates failure at the B.O., and Paramounts recent decision to make Beverly Cops 4 for Netflix, we have the further breakdown of cinema IP in Sonys Charlies Angels reboot, which is tanking with a God-awful $8.2M opening, 3 Stars on Screen Engine-Comscores PostTrak, and a B+ Cinemascore.
The Elizabeth Banks-directed-written and produced pic is also opening in 27 offshore markets, China being one where its also bombing, with a $6M two-day take in second place behind local title Somewhere Winter ($8.8M). All of this is primed to further spur a WTF reaction and anxiety among film development executives in town in regards to what the hell exactly works in this have-and-have-not era of the theatrical marketplace. Many will make the hasty generalization that old, dusty IP doesnt work, or is now deemed too risky when its not a superhero project. However, moviemaking is an art, not a science, and annoying as it might sound, good movies float to the top, and this Charlies Angels reboot didnt have the goods going back to its script.

The Coen Brothers version was both a better movie and more faithful to the book.
Actually, the only reason I ever watched the show is because Wonder Woman was only shown once a week. If that show had taken the "Batman" or "Payton Place" approach of multiple nights per week, Charley's Angels might have had fewer viewers.
There's plenty of creativity in Hollywood, and lots of good ideas. The problem is that with even a low-budget movie costing tens of millions of dollars, the bean counters want to bet on as sure of things as they can find, and that means things that people already know. Go to blcklst.com and read some of the scripts that get voted by industry execs as their favorites. But with rare exceptions, they won't be produced because an accountant hired a consultant to run a focus group and someone there wrote on a card that they didn't understand the idea and wouldn't go see that movie. There's plenty of creativity, but creative people don't make the call of what to make and what not to make. Business people who have to report to boards of directors and shareholders do, and it's easier to defend losing money on Charlie's Angels than it is some idea that no one ever heard of.
Garsh, Mickey...why are so many new SJW, fem and gay movies doing so gosh darned bad? I just dont get it...
ROTFL!
Are you sure Charlie’s not trans?
Get woke, go broke.
I do the same.
If I want to see an awful movie there is Rifftrax with commentary.
Cheryl Ladd was the best. If you could Weird Science up my ideal woman from my brain, I dont see how she could be much different from Cheryl.
Make money with good old fashioned conservative valued films is all they have to do.
But... they are not learning.
Go woke, go broke.
Great story!
“Terminator was very good”
I think so, too.
......”There’s plenty of creativity in Hollywood”.....
I disagree.
Well, I guess that's that, then.
Guys watched the original CA for the porn... Farah Fawcett, Jacyln Smith and Kate Jackson... gorgeous women with street smarts.
It had a 70s vibe to it and it was always classy and a cult hit.
No matter how many times they try, the original Angels cant be touched.
And, Lynda Carter is Wonder Woman.
Hate males, their natural inferiors.
Yeah, nothing like Kate, Jaclyn and Farrah .
Dunno who the new trio are. Looks like wormy teenagers...
The Israeli chick did a pretty good job, IMHO.
Very lucky guy....
