The family of a baby girl on life support has been awarded a temporary restraining order against the hospital that planned to turn off her life-sustaining treatment.
Nine-month-old Tinslee Lewis family has been fighting to keep her on life support as doctors from Cook Childrens Medical Center in Fort Worth enacted the 10-Day Rule, allowing them to end life-sustaining treatment for the baby girl despite the familys desire to continue to treat her. Texas 10-Day Rule gives families just 10 days to find a new hospital to treat the patient before they remove life support. Tinslee was scheduled to have life support removed at 3 p.m. on Sunday but that same day, the family learned that Tarrant County District Judge Alex Kim had granted them a temporary restraining order against the hospital, according to The Blaze.
Shes a fighter, Tinslees mother Trinity Lews said of her daughter. Shes been through so much.
Tinslee was born prematurely and was diagnosed with a rare heart defect called Ebstein anomaly which causes her heart to press against her lungs. She needs a ventilator to breathe.
We are just asking for the opportunity to give Tinslee a fighting chance, said Tye Brown, Trinity Lewis cousin.
It is the opinion of officials at Cook Childrens that Tinslee is in pain and that nothing can be done to help her. Hospital spokesperson Winifred King said, While we believe every childs life is sacred, we also believe that no child should be sentenced to a life of pain. This indicates there may actually be hope for Tinslee, but because she has health concerns and may be in some level of pain, the doctors at Cook Childrens seem to have determined she would be better off dead.
Texas Right to Life board director Rich DeOttee called the Texas 10-Day Rule one of the worst laws in the country. He added, Under the 10-Day Rule, criminals on death row have more rights than patients at Texas hospitals. Texas Right to Life has been working closely with Tinslees family including providing them with an attorney.
Cooks Children is prevented from turning off Tinslees life support until November 23. The family now has until November 22 to move Tinslee to another facility that is willing to treat her or Cooks Children will facilitate her death.

Good to see that the family has the financial means to continue treatment.
Dear Heavenly Father, please grant this family a miracle and destroy this so-called law. In Jesus’ Holy and Healing Name, Amen
About forty years ago my wife’s niece had a premature baby with lots of problems. The Drs said to “pull the plug” as the child had no chance of survival.
They refused and worked and worried with her for years.
Today that child has done well, worked and performed on Broadway, worked for a major Talent agency in NYC and today teaches Performing arts at a major University in OKC.
So much for “no chance”.
Mild Ebstein anomaly might never need treatment; there seem to be standardized surgical procedures to treat severe cases, even in infants.
Is the hospital saying the defect is so bad as to be inoperable? What would preclude putting her on a transplant list? Does the baby have other medical problems, brain injury or a chromosomal abnormality?
My cousin’s child has Down syndrome and was born with tetralogy of Fallot defect; they had to let her grow a few months until her heart was “as big as a walnut” before surgery to correct.
She probably has chronic lung disease as well, and sadly, that could be fatal even if she could withstand surgery for the heart problem.
No one should take their child anywhere near this Nazi hospital.
I am praying this little person can be moved to a safe medical facility, where the doctors will care and be successful...
Honestly, we desperately need a new national organization, and centralized facilities in every state, that are absolutely committed to saving every life possible!
The “10-day rule” isn’t really a big factor in this case...Tinslee has been on life support in the ICU for 9 months.

That story hits home with me.
When I was born, the Dr told my parents I had just a 10% chance of surviving.
But hospitals are for treatment, not long term care.
It all boils down to the money.
