Climate change, corruption blamed for Venice flood devastation

Much of Venice was underwater on Wednesday after the highest tide in 50 years ripped through the historic Italian city, beaching gondolas, trashing hotels and sending tourists fleeing through rapidly rising waters.

Officials blamed climate change while shopkeepers on the Grand Canal raged against those who have failed to protect the UNESCO city from the high tide.

They said corruption had repeatedly delayed a barrier protection system which could have prevented the disaster.

"The city is on its knees," Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro said in an interview with national broadcaster RAI.

Fun fact: the city was built because Italians were looking for places to live away from the barbarian hoards that were capturing 1.2 to 1.5 million whites for slavery and taking them to the barbarian states. (Google up Barbarian Wars)

Now for some reason it's okay for blacks to be forever mad at whites for African slavery (200K to 300K brought to the modern U.S.). But whites can't be mad at Muslims in the tiniest bit for bringing over a million white slaves to the northern African states (about the same geographic size as the then colonial U.S.). Even though most of the European slaves were captured during the same centuries as most of the African slaves.

Just sayin'.

Not saying of course this has been going on for centuries since the city was stupidly built on islands in a tide basin.

It’s low in the water anyway , a large wave would drown it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPXtn15_9qo&list=PL-ztkd_hPhOT3DVqDTBgH2LEXgi98LWAj&index=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgLRWs8OyMs

I guess building that barrier protection system didn’t blend with their ideas about global warming. Maybe they feel that the tides are a product of global warming. Well, why not? Everything else is said to be.

highest tide in 50 years

NOT highest tide ever.

They should expect a high tide within a 50 year period.

The Washington Post article claims that the problem is caused by sea level rising faster at Venice than elsewhere. Seriously.
