The long-running daytime soap's future is in flux, though it will continue airing for the remainder of the current season. The future of NBC's daytime soap Days of Our Lives is in doubt after the entire cast was released from their contracts.
The 55-year-old drama the longest-running entertainment show in NBC's history will go on an indefinite hiatus at the end of November, although enough episodes have been banked to play out the rest of the 2019-20 season.
NBC and Sony Pictures TV, which distributes the show, declined comment. Calls to producer Corday Productions were not returned.
Corday, which carries the contracts with the cast, made the call to release the actors. Days of Our Lives was renewed for 2019-20 in January; should it be picked up again, production would likely resume in the spring but the cast would have to negotiate new contracts. Sony Pictures TV and NBC had been in talks for another season when Corday released the cast.
Corday also sued Sony earlier this year, claiming the studio hadn't put forth its best efforts at distributing Days of Our Lives. The claim said Sony made a decision to "eliminate any competition to its wholly owned series The Young and the Restless.
In the annals of Hollywood television, it is difficult to identify a distributor more guilty of blatant conflict of interest, deceit, perfidy, and abuse of market power."

My sainted country grandmother was a loyal "Days" viewer. I think it was, for her, a glimpse into a world where people always looked nice, went out for dinner at fancy restaurants, generally lived more glamorous lives... but still had some of the same problems everyone faces.
Of course, I remember this most in the 70's and 80's. It was a lot less graphic, and certainly didn't include a lot of the plotlines I've heard about.
That is so beautiful. I cry every time I hear it. /jk
Let’s see that last time I saw a soap was Like and Laura’s wedding...and it was on TV when I was sick...I thought the View killed soaps...
Then there was the SCTV parody
Monday...Tuesday...Wednesday.....
These are the Days of the Week

Not Trump’s fault. Liberals don’t use soap. Hurts advertisers.
There’s a couple of lesbos on The Young and the Restless.
The networks keep dropping iconic soap operas.
Yet, unwatchable garbage such as The View and The Talk remain on the air.
Whats wrong with this picture?
Im still triggered from the cancellations of One Life to Live, As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
Dark Shadows was a little before my time but, when I was in Kindergarten, the local PBS affiliate would air the reruns every afternoon.
Every day, after I got home from Kindergarten, I couldnt wait to watch Dark Shadows. My mother hated the show but I loved it.
All I remember about The Edge of Night is shows opening, with that deep male voice saying The Edge of Night. It kind of gave me the creeps, lol. Which is strange, because Dark Shadows didnt creep me out at all.
My Mother and older sister watched Search For Tomorrow, Young and The Restless, As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
She never seemed to age and she never took herself too seriously.
did they run out of ways to have all the characters die and come back or divorce and remarry?
Because this is how society is shifting.
I am a man, and I enjoy soaps.
Lots of men watch soaps.
Love my dvr also. If she misses Y&R when it’s on I “get to” play it back for here fast Fwding through the commercials. She’s EDC...............Electronic Device Challenged. lol
Honorable mention goes to the super cheesy one called Texas.
The two airheads Ruby and Lelene were really funny.
“Lots of men watch soaps.”
You are correct. And there’s nothing wrong with it.
... like sands through an hourglass ...
And... All My Children.
GH, yes. AMC, not since 2011.
You’re correct. Men do watch soaps, although many won’t admit it.
And there’s nothing wrong with it.
