Imagine, you know someone who doesnt know anything about WW2, and you had to explain how the US was attacked at Pearl Harbor, the significance of Doolittles raid, the odds the US was up against the Japanese, how Intel helped us win the battle of Midway, and just how crazy, non-politically correct, and determined the Greatest Generation was - all in 2 hours.
Thats the movie Midway in a nutshell.
I think hell love it -he might even cry
Because of all the political garbage, I don’t go to many movies at the theaters. I’ve been wanting to see this one. Thanks for the recommendation.
I think youll like it. Its about a time and place in our history, where we needed to come together to win a war, and these kids stepped up, through caution to wind, and got the job done.
I can’t wait to see it!!
Rotten Tomatoes can be a fun site for reviews.
Midway was given a 40% by critics, 91% by audience scoring.
Midway is so square, so old-school and old-fashioned, it almost feels avant-garde. Ambiguity is not its goal, nor is nihilism its motivating philosophy. It aims to celebrate heroism, sacrifice, determination and grit, and if you dont like that it really does not care.
I had high expectations for this movie, and they were absolutely MET and EXCEEDED.
In my opinion, "Midway" is the best and most historically-accurate WWII movie of recent memory, and it's one of the few that actually highlights the air war in the Pacific. The writers seemed to recognize that simply recreating this momentous series of events was an amazing story in-and-of itself, without wasting time on unnecessary drama and distractions.
Went to see it with mild expectations and was blown away . Basically all the lead characters are second tier supporting actors and it works . Harrelson maybe a little too young for his part although he did a great job . The action is unbelievable and grabs you from the start and never lets go . You will feel like your in the cockpit and what these men did in the air was beyond bravery .
Its a independent film and Im guessing couldnt get the big bucks because of no big names however has the feel of a big budget $180 million picture which was made for $55 Million .
The best movie Ive seen in 2019 by a wide margin .
It was the perfect blend of Hollywood and documentary. As a history student who has studied this battle for years, I was thoroughly impressed by the level of historical accuracy, down to small details that even I was surprised to see, especially in a Hollywood film. It does a great job of depicting the events that lead up to the battle, like the Doolittle Raid and the Battle of Coral Sea, and also effectively and accurately portrayed the tactics and decision making of the commanders during the Battle of Midway.
My friend and I went and saw the movie this afternoon. Im a Air Force Vietnam combat veteran and my friend is a 23 year retired naval officer. We thought this movie was so compelling and so realistic.
Todays technology is absolutely incredible, the battle scenes were outstanding. I am a historical buff and I thought it was very accurate. I loved the way it started at Pearl Harbor and showed how fragile it was in a pacific. Each step of the way you could tell by this great movie how serious and how close it came to be a defeat in the Pacific war. I have read The negative reviews on this movie quite frankly I dont understand that. So I recommend this very highly especially if you want to see the history of World War II in the Pacific and this great battle of Midway . I think it should be shown in high schools all over America to see what our great nations veterans have done in the past, especially our GREATEST GENERATION!

(I have to check clips first with movies to see if they’re nothing but the usual wham-bam CGI fests that make up most films in recent years)
Kraut Bass tards got us into WWII when they bombed Pearl Harbor...
Thanks everyone !
Language
Language includes one use of "f--k," plus "s--t," "ass" "a--hole," "goddamn," "son of a bitch." Also British swearing like "bugger" and "bloody." Japanese people are frequently referred to as "Japs," and a serviceman leading an exercise session calls his charges (all male) "ladies," implying they're weak.
J. E. didn’t hang himself in it did he?
Last movie I saw in the theater was "They Shall Not Grow Old" almost a year ago. Which I just noticed has finally had a domestic release in Bluray.
I seldom go to movies, so I dont even know who he is, but the actors the portrayed Halsey, Nimitz, and all the other pilots, and crew men were totally believable for the period - no PC crap at all.

Is the word JAP used? If yes, then the movie is period correct.

Just added Midway to my Netflix queue. It’ll probably be released to DVD some time in Jan or Feb, 2020.
