Most had a mother who didnt love them
Sometimes we’d go over the rap sheets of our charges. Many had truly horrible upbringings. Poverty, of course, drug use by mom (and dad, if presentusually not) had a few that got into knife fights with siblings at home. At about the point where everyone was agreeing “no wonder he’s here”, someone would point out that his brothers and sisters weren’t locked up.
As to your point, I guess it is a chicken-and-egg kind of thing. Mom didn’t love him, and so he went bad, or he was so bad from such a young age that mom could no longer love him. Could be both.
Some one did a study a long time ago. Third or fourth graders could accurately predict which of their classmates would eventually be in prison. I can see why, in many cases they could.
