They are about as docile as dogs are, Someone must have treated them terribly.
Agreed, but...I will say, I had a close encounter with one that burned into my memory.
My sister was a hippie, and came home one time in a car with some other hippies and they had a Great Dane in the back seat with them (which I didn’t know)
I walked over to the car they were sitting in and stuck my head in the window to say hello, and my field of view was filled immediately with a gaping mouth lunging towards my face.
I must have startled the dog when I stuck my head in, and must managed to pull back and heard the snap of the jaws missing my face.
Holy crap. What sticks out in my mind, and that was over forty years ago, was the look of the inside of that Great Dane’s mouth. It was odd, mottled pink, white, and I think black, with weird looking ribs going side to side on the roof of the dog’s mouth.
There was something strange and alien about that, and I have often wondered how different my life would have been had I not reflexively jerked my head away.
Even then, I didn’t blame the dog, but I was pretty pissed at my sister, because she didn’t warn me or something.
