I never follow closely to any trucks, especially flatbeds or open-top containers.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many truckers do not choose to secure (and absolutely so) their loads.

Yeah, I always figure the guy who failed to secure his load is stupid. Funny how that works. And by the way, you know she was following closely how? And did traffic conditions permit anything else? You seem to have a lot of knowledge the rest of us don’t.

The driver was behind the truck, but since the bar went in the passenger side, tat sounds like the car might well have been in the left lane.

You would also be surprised how far an object "falling" off of a highway speed vehicle might go or bounce.

A mid-sized truck driving on the rural state road in front of my house on northern Illinois lost a WHEEL and it bounced and rolled 600 feet before it hit my front porch, causing minor damage to the railing. The truck went a little farther before the occupants realized what happened. I gave them their wheel, and received neither thanks, nor an apology. Type of guys who don't know how to tight lug nuts, I guess.

It amazes me how stupid some truck drivers are to not firmly secure their loads. Drivers who don’t properly secure their loads get reported to the state police if my husband or I see them. And we stay as far away from them as we can, or pass them as quickly as possible. Several years ago, a guy in a pick up truck was hauling some stuff, including a church pew, when the pew went sailing off the truck, crashed through the windshield of a car behind it, and killed a six year old kid. Idiots like that need to go to prison.

When I am in the vicinity of any vehicle carrying a load, I get away from it very quickly, I have seen numerous loads not secured well.
