(the rest is behind a so-called paywall.
What would you expect with all of that raping and pillaging from Byzantium to Vinland?
My ancestry is Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Denmark so I should have some Viking in there somewhere. :-)
My ancestors were vikings. Feared throughout the land. Conquerors wherever they went. The baddest of the bad.
And yet I ended up as an uneducated white deplorable.
Well, that sucks.
Viking genetics and Viking ancestry is used quite a lot in extremist right-wing circles...
News to me.
Or is it fake news?
I tried to find another source and they all come back to the new scientist article. I understand making a buck, but it’s too bad that they don’t allow access to articles like this after a few months since it is from July. 95% or more of those who might be interested in this will never read it. That is a 95% reduction in needed exposure for this author and his work. It hinders rather than helps his career overall. It is stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime in the long run.
The purpose of the article is NOT about the genetic diversity of the Vikings. That fact is the tool the article uses to make a dig at “right wing extremists”, whom now apparently are not enamored with Germanic ancestry but Viking ancestry. Rubbish.
It is so very ignorant to believe these travelers didn’t grow the family tree and spread seeds everywhere.
I find the connections with the Black Sea the most interesting in this. :)
Vikings shows are now laden with feminism tripe
Last a kingdom had very little of it thankfully
Mary Queen of Scots....
I was like wtf...
Is this some sort of joke...
Channel changed
Few tv creators in goofball land treat history well anymore
Next Zulu or Roots movie I want whites in loin cloth running about too lol
They just had to mention White Supremacy didn’t they.
Of course, they go from Fran to Randy.
My ancestry is almost entirely Mennonite and Amish from Switzerland. Imagine my surprise when my sister did a DNA sample and it came back predominantly Scandinavian. I found out that Canton Berne where almost all of my ancestors came from was settled by the Burgundians and was a part of burgundy. The Burgands according to online sources were a Saxon Tribe that has its roots in Scandinavia. I think they probably predated the Vikings though. I suspect these Scandinavian countries are so sparsely populated because so many people left.
The Vikings were not just looking for plunder, they were collecting babes. Still going on today, its called sailors on liberty. A few more rules these days.
The Y-DNA haplogroup associated with “Vikings, “ is I1
Y-DNA is the “fatherline”
That is me, going back in central Sweden.
All on paper, pedigrees, or “familly trees.”
And in two separate DNA tests.
I am 4% Swedish, according to my DNA results.
