You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Yes, please!
Did not get the “big stick’ hint until I finished with the help of hal’s tool, my first crack at it. never heard the saying, so no jump start for me.
Got: Freedom from effort in the present merely means that there has been effort stored up in the past - theodore roosevelt
Took me a good while, no way could I do it without the helper
Did you get my clue? Buffalo soldiers, as part of Teddys rough Riders?
Are you on the ping list?
Not on the list, pls add.
First time, not up on the clues or even what it was to decode.
Are they usually famous sayings?
They are quotations from notable people. Ghandi, FDR, Ronald Reagan, Trump, Socrates, etc etc
Many people will solve the puzzle then post a clue, eg Magnum44 does this. I might also. The picture clue sometimes is tougher to figure out than the CG.
Today’s CG is pretty easy, and you should get it within 5 minutes. Don’t over think it. What you see is what you think you see. (Hint:Look at the author’s first name. Should give you a quick clue. Also look for suffixes. If you see the letter “I” third letter from the end, it’s a pretty good bet that the word ends in “ING”....and of course the most common letter is gong to be “E”).
If you’re stumped go to HAL.
