The schools promote them to get higher attendance, better TV ratings, better renewals to the TV contracts, and a higher profile for the next recruiting class. The schools are already getting plenty off of that.

Agents are only strictly forbidden because agents imply money to be made, and the students aren’t allowed to make money. Now they are. Nothing wrong with agents.

Who cares if they make “real” money? As it sits right now the students can’t even get a free lunch at a restaurant (or free tattoos, remember the Ohio students) without risking their eligibility and hence scholarship. The system is stupid. It needs to die.

“What you can’t have is a couple athletes driving around in Ferraris...

Unless they put the dogs on the hood.

Mitt Romney understands what it’s like when A-holes with more money than brains try to throw their weight around...

Very socialist of you Mittens. Everybody must be the same regardless of their capabilities. Shut up. Just go away.

They can pay back the value of their athletic scholarships from the proceeds, freeing up money for STEM students who will actually create and make things of value. Win-win.

Mitt is so politically tone-deaf, it’s not even funny.

Why does this jerk think he should have a say in what any other person earns or doesn't earn?

I wouldn’t worry about Ferraris. Or Lambos. Most of these ghetto-born jocks never learned to operate manual transmissions. Frequently you’ll read an article from some urban area where a car owner gets car-jacked but none of the jackers know how to drive a stick so they run away. I assume that Escalades and the Lincoln equivalent will be de rigeur amongst the nouveax riche on the campuses.

Never mind the fact that her teaching has nothing to do with Tom Brady’s success. My skills as an adult are due to my college choices and self-directed learning, not my teachers from growing up.

The only significant contribution I have from my teachers growing up is the memories of if they encouraged me or discouraged me in my pursuits. I had a lot more teachers kill my dreams (especially in high school) than teachers who encouraged my success...and they wonder why I don’t think they’re as important as they think they are.

My wife taught high school and she agrees with me.

University of Alabama does this. The Football program pays for the 4 year full rides of National Merit Scholars. About 200 choose to attend the school each year.

Exactly. The pointless exaltation of amateur. The Olympics got over that nearly 30 years ago. Time for the NCAA to catch up.

Yep, if Jim Thorpe had been a Boston Brahmin from Harvard, those semi-pro baseball games would have been ignored.

>>>But he doesn’t want to see the most prominent athletes at each school making considerably more money than everyone else.

The efforts of the prominent athletes can often bring in the dollars that pay for the scolarships for athletes on non revenue generating teams.

No. There aren’t more than 2 or 3 football players who are marketable in the million dollar range. Assistant coaches make that much already.

I get your point, but democrats only want fairness for those THEY deem worthy.
