I may have to get comfortable working with gas fuel.
I’m not there yet. Not sure if there are many other choices though. Thank you for the advice.

We have a gas stove, have had them off and on over the years. Gas grills are simple--use mine in middle of winter, just shovel off the snow. A steak on the grill is only way to go. Ours has a hot plate on side. Used it in Northern Virginia years ago when the power was knocked out by ice storm and snow dropping branches on power lines that the local power company was too cheap to keep clear (or move underground).

I've assumed most people have gas grills. Wonder what the percentage is across the US.

We have power outages now and then—I have a folding sterno stove and several packs of sterno. Got it on Amazon. Walmart also has the sterno cans. Pretty Cheap and will fit your bug out bag. Works great to heat up soup or water for coffee.

We also have a rocket stove that uses twigs from the yard. A handful of twigs will cook an entire meal with after dinner coffee. I have a coleman camping stove 2 burner—haven’t used it in years—don’t like the fuel.

You ought to drop the *may* and just get used to it.

Seriously, it's not hard to screw in a small propane bottle and light the stove.

They are not hard to learn to work and if things keep going the way they are, it may be essential.

I would say that today's portable butane stoves are safer than lithium batteries in the sizes you would need to power a cooking heat source. Butane over propane because the BTU/oz content is higher. Piezoelectric ignition far safer than matches OR batteries.

If I were setting up for camping/temporary bugout, I would have a single-burner butane stove and a "chef's" butane torch, with butane cigarette lighter for backup.

I understand that. But, as long as general rules are followed there isn’t a lot of danger. Worst case...cook in the garage where there is more ventilation.
