FWIW, he is in jail serving a 100 year sentence for attempted manslaughter, amongst other charges. But sure, if you want to buy into the left wing comPost narrative that he was a poor shoplifter, go for it.

The court acknowledged that this may seem “unfair,” but when police have to protect the public, they can’t be “burdened with the condition” that they compensate whoever is damaged by their actions along the way.
The police don't have to protect the public.
