In Modern Warfare, the latest entry in the Call of Duty first-person shooter series, an infamous U.S. attack is fictionalized as Russian, rather than American, violence.
In the Modern Warfare single-player campaign's eleventh mission, players engage Russian snipers along a wartorn highway in the fictional country of Urkistan. Strewn with burnt out vehicles and bomb craters, a rebel leader named Farah leads players in an attempt to capture a terrorist leader known as "The Wolf." While the country and characters are fictionalized, Farah's description of the setting directly references a real-world event.

I’m more of a Battlefield guy.....at least i was.
Battlefield 4 was the last for me unless EA changes the game and development drastically...which they won’t.
the plan is to milk the franchise to death then put the developer DICE out of business...like all of the others.
F EA!
Iraqis did commit war crimes during it occupation. But at that time, those early testimonies were found to be faked or suspect.
“Also Bush promised the Soviet Secretary of State Shewarnadze that the Iraqi forces would have free passage back home.”
Well, they did. In body bags.
But then the highway bombing was in violation of Hague and Geneva conventions and US Field Manual too.
Not to mention we are talking about a packed six lane highway in a middle of a traffic jam packed not only with Iraqi troops but also countless foreign workers escaping Kuwait with their families.
I think people are being intentionally obtuse to try and slag off the campaign in the newest CoD. There’s more than one “Highway of Death” out there and the game is not set in Iraq, it’s set in “Urzikistan” which is probably more of an analog of Syria or maybe even a current -stan country.
That having been said, the single-player campaign does pretty much make out Russians, at least the vast majority of them you run across in the game, to be homicidal, genocidal, raping, murdering, gassing maniacs who do war crimes for funsies. Half the time you’re shooting “al-Qatala” suicide bombing headchoppers, and the other half you’re shooting Spetsnaz.
