Go ahead and remove me from this ping list.
It was a great idea and appreciated but the hateful cyclist hating trolls ruin it. Stupid trolls don’t realize that not all cyclists ride in traffic, not all disregard rules of the road, not all are “queers in spandex”, and a good bunch of cyclists are conservatives.
If you can find a way to keep the trolls out, add me back.
I recently saw an interview with a retired career Russian spy who said the first job he got after entering the U.S. was as a messenger in NYC.
The push to mix bicyclists with vehicle traffic is reckless and irresponsible.
The deaths prove that.
Bicyclists are a menace. In my City of 250k in the City limits, there might be 10 commuter cyclists on a nice day. The City has made a dog’s breakfast of the traffic patterns and lanes all in an effort to pander to the spandex fags.
We know this is not going to work.
Truth hurts. Stop blocking traffic!
Who do you think paid for the sidewalks. Who is paying for the bike paths. Our taxes.
Most everyone uses sidewalks. Not so with bike paths.
Im sure the small percentage of bikers taxes didnt come close to paying for their trails.
Why do the rest of us non bikers have to subsidize their hobby.
You play, you should pay.
I dont even mind paying for the bike paths. But the gear queers then dont even use them. Theyre still out in the middle of the road with stupid slack jawed grins on their faces.
Not good enough.
Only bicycle buy-backs will end this carnage.
Law abiding Americans will gladly turn in their bicycles and if anybody tries to keep his, SWAT teams will come to their home.
I don’t block anybody because I don’t ride in traffic.
All the NYC bike lanes do is make driving a car more difficult, and that, I believe, is the intent.
ML/NJ
I pay the same taxes as everybody else does. I don’t ride on the road. I ride wooded trails and greenways. I don’t block traffic. I give the ROW to all walkers and joggers. Not all cyclists are like the rude NY cyclists. Most are not. IMO, everybody in NY is a rude jerk so why should cyclists be any different there?
This all reminds me of the time I worked in the1965 campaign of Bill Buckley for Mayor of New York with Jim Farley (ABC news) Bob Maloney (Dallas Morn. News) and other young Conservatives. We had a ball; we would go to John Lindsay rallies and heckle his speeches. We went to Union Square to battle the Communists. I remember one old lady in tennis shoes grabbed Farley by the throat, for daring to heckle Lindsay. He was the prototypical RINO. An educated fool. Anyway Buckley was asked what he would do if he was elected. He answered Id demand a recount! He knew he couldnt win, but ran to inject conservative principles into New York Citys politics. Like Goldwater for Reagan, he paved the way for Juliani. Bills platform had two planks: 1) Vigilante Committees so people could patrol their own neighborhoods. 2) Elevated Bike lanes to reduce traffic congestion. By the way, Biden doesnt want to be President anymore than Buckley wanted to be Mayor. Why is he running? Hes running for cover! He and his crooked son and a bevy of other corrupt pols have had their hands in the Ukraine cookie jar for years and the eyes of Justice are finally closing in. What to do. Run for President Joe! That way you can claim that the investigation is politically motivated! With the medias help you can get a pass! Will it work?
I almost killed a bicyclist this morning. The fool shot up between 2 lanes of cars waiting for a light then turned right and crossed in front of me as the light changed and I started going through the intersection.
I predict that the 250 miles of bike lanes will bring increased bicyclist deaths.
These people take chances that are stupid. Additional bike lanes will only encourage their stupidity and careless behavior.
Cyclists should NEVER ride on sidewalks. Sidewalks are for pedestrians only.
Cyclists generally are motorists as well, so yeah, they pay taxes to build roads.
Cyclists are also subject to all the same rules as motorists, so yeah, they have the same rights, including taking up an entire lane. Most won’t, out of courtesy, but they have every right to.
A cyclist running down a pedestrian is almost as much of a threat to the cyclist as to the pedestrian. Contrast that to the risk a motorist runs hitting a cyclist.
Share the road.
I think the provision of free parking on city streets encourages the use of cars. Why so much public land in the most crowded city in America should be provided for vehicle storage is a public policy problem that some future mayor will have to address.
“Keep this childs toy off of roads designed for, built for and paid for by cars and these deaths will stop.”
Amen
The problem is not the need for protected bike paths, it’s that there is now a huge number of bicycles out there with all the stands for renting bikes and you can tell many of these people are not particularly skilled cyclists. Now there’s a massive increase in electric kick scooters that are all over cities just waiting to cause accidents.
These weekend bike clubs hit the suburbs and country roads on the weekends riding4-6 across the road. These large groups(60+) should need expensive permits and be required to have a paid police escort because they dont follow the laws.
