In a bid to stay slightly more relevant in the midst of rapidly changing times, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer has proposed a $454 billion plan to swap traditional gas-powered cars to electric vehicles, Automotive News reports.
Not all of the $454 billion will go to consumers, though. Schumers plan includes billions in incentives for automakers to build or outfit EV factories as well as billions of dollars to improve the EV charging infrastructure.
The 29 percent of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the transportation sector does not only cover new cars, though thats whats always targetted. It covers cars, trucks, boats and air travel.
And it seems intentional that almost nowhere will break out numbers of cars versus the rest, as shipping and trucking are notoriously dirty. Globally, we know that air travel accounts for 2.5 percent of emissions while the transportation sector emits 15 percent of all carbon, but the EPA doesnt seem to offer broken out numbers.
To sum up, rather than regulate, these programs tax consumers and use that money to pay manufacturers to develop cars they should be developing already while incentivizing people to destroy perfectly good cars.

"Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer Has A $454 Billion Proposal To Encourage America To Go Electric"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
Patriots are reminded that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to do what misguided Sen. Schumer wants to do with electric vehicles (EVs).
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
While we need volunteer consumers to pioneer the use of EVs, EV batteries are not only known to not hold their charge in freezing weather, but California EV owners are facing the possibility of temporarily not being able to use their vehicles because of blackouts in the name of wildfire prevention.
That being said, it wouldnt be surprising if Schumer ultimately regarded his proposed, unconstitutional EV program as successful if it helps to keep career Democrats and RINOs in power.
Remember in November 2020!
Keep America Great!
"The Holy Grail of organized crime is to control government power to tax." me
"The 16th Amendment effectively repealed the involuntary servitude aspect of the 13th Amendment imo, evidenced by unconstitutional federal taxes." me

"13th Amendment, Section 1:
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude [emphasis added], except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
"16th Amendment:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

"The smart crooks long ago figured out that getting themselves elected to federal office to make unconstitutional tax laws to fill their pockets is a much easier way to make a living than robbing banks." me
"Federal career lawmakers probably laugh all the way to the bank to deposit bribes for putting loopholes for the rich and corporations in tax appropriations laws, Congress actually not having the express constitutional authority to make most appropriations laws where domestic policy is concerned. Such laws are based on stolen state powers and uniquely associated stolen state revenues." me
Cough it up Chucky, use your precious DNC slush fund, show us you believe in what you say you Skunk or slink back under the rock you came from.
Funny Chuck You Schumer was last seen in a gas guzzling Limo. He wont even ride an electric car when it’s on OUR dime!
“wouldnt be surprising if Schumer ultimately regarded his proposed, unconstitutional EV program as successful if it helps to keep career Democrats and RINOs in power.”
And that is all it’s about.
This is an impeachment year, no time for this crap.
Next year is an election year, still no time.
In the unlikely event, anyone talks about it too late, most of the components will come from offshore, some nonunion assembly in the USA.
This is a fake to the UAW.
Flatulent donkey!
And that they will have to drive cars that have to refuel every 200 miles and it will take 45 minutes each time to refuel.
As long as it costs BILLIONS IN TAXPAYER DOLLARS, the Democrats are for it.
California’s electric grid is in shambles and will cost billions to upgrade. The power company is bankrupt and cannot afford to pay for the work. Meanwhile, California will not build new power plants and is in fact closing down power plants.
Solution - have the taxpayers of other states fund a big federal program to upgrade the grid. Democrats in Congress, and compliant Republicans, write the legislation so big urban green states such as California and New York get most of the money. The enhanced grid will facilitate the import of power from neighboring states. Hence the Greens can shut down the remaining power plants in California and New York and the electrical needs will be met by solar and wind supplemented with imported fossil fuel produced energy imported from neighboring states for when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow.
Eliminate the consequences of insane Green policies by having your neighbors pay the infrastructure bill and supply your needs.
Only if a electric can beat a Vette in the quarter mile and tow a trailer...
So I've been looking at replacements. I'm looking for a hybrid AWD/4WD with a hefty enclosed cargo space. I'm NOT looking for a pickup.
Slim pickin’s in the marketplace for any EV, but I have quite a number of choices in gas sippers. The car reviewers say that the EV versions of the vehicles I'm interested are not mature enough. If I'm going to plunk down $41K I want something that fits my needs, and isn't half-baked.
It's too bad Chuckie isn't an automotive engineer, who can produce such a vehicle. Until something that checks all the boxes arrives, I'm going to stick with the tried and true.
And just where is all the electric for the vehicles going to come from .... oh, from wall plugs.
How much of that $454 billion dollars is for new coal-fired power plants?
We will need them to create all that new demand for electricity.
Better do it quick before all the electricity is shutoff.
In my neck of the woods, we have power outages. An electric car is just the thing we don’t need. Those power outages in California are a major disaster for electric cars. And the increased demand for electricity to charge them would tax the electrical capacity to generate the power.
Perhaps Chuckie and his climate alarmist cronies want US citizens to start eating zoo animals as they have done in Venezuela - once the farmers can’t get the food to the cities.
