Does anyone know of any Old Fashioned Amish Villages/Town in either PA()not Lancaster), NY or OH?

Intercourse, PA but it’s not what it was years ago.

Yeah, it's kind of screwed lately...

Seriously though, go to the Bird In Hand Family Restaurant.

If you navigate correctly, you can find yourself on the road from Intercourse to Paradise. ;^)

I always go from Intercourse to Bird In Hand.

Smicksburg, Pennsylvania, (northern Indiana County) which is in southwestern Pennsylvania. Also the area around Grove City and New Wilmington, Pennsylvania which is in northwestern Pennsylvania. Much less commercialization than around Lancaster and beautiful countryside with little traffic.

I lived in Lancaster County Pa. and the surrounding rural areas and it is incredible America. The Amish and Mennonites are a fascinating part of America. Suburban sprawl makes me furious.

Isnt that a GREAT way to travel?

We have been doing that. To heck with the interstate. Take the two lanes across the country and take the time to enjoy REAL America.

Mennonites have some long-established communities in Mexico.

Be careful though because you may go around a corner and find a horse drawn carrage going very slow.

One morning about 20 years ago, I was riding in a truck with my father down a gravel road in Northeast Missouri. We were going to see a guy who would sharpen Dad's chainsaw.

I was sure I saw a blinking red light up ahead, such as one would see when there's a crossroad, in paved-road country. Dad gave me a funny look when I mentioned it.

After a few minutes, we caught up to a black horse-drawn buggy with a reflective red triangle on the back. My city brain had replaced it with a stoplight!

Clark Cable and Carol Lombard? They were married in Kingman AZ.

The false part of the story is that they spent their honeymoon in Oatman Az. Not true. But, they did often go there and stayed at the Oatman Hotel.

They did not like Hollywood and would go to Oatman to get to heck away from the hassle of the big city.

I always heard it was Malabar Farm. Maybe that was just a trip, but they were there.

I met an elderly lady who grew up in Oatman and knew them both. She was a kid at the time.

Said that they would come to Oatman often and stay at the hotel. He would park the car outside, take the bags upstairs and then Carol would head down and join the ladies of the town in needle point and gossip and Clark would go to the local saloon and sit down with the local miners and play poker and smoke cigars.

Just like the common folk. They enjoyed it and never so much as looked down their noses at anybody.

I have seen home movies of them stuck with their car out in the desert around this area.

We visit a local one about 1/2 hour to the NE of us in Middlefied, OH. If you drive a little further east there is a great little general store that has a lot of the old candies, toys, etc called “End of the Commons General Store” on the corner of OH 534 and Kinsman Road in Mesopotamia, OH.

https://www.endofthecommons.com

Middlefield has the usual fair - cheese factory, furniture stores, a couple of nice flea market locations, etc. Not too far off I90, but you will have to drive a bit to get properly out in the “boonies”.

The other location I’m familiar with in Ohio would be a triangle between Millersburg, New Philadelphia, and Canton. This one may have easier access and more places to go from the interstate. I like the first more because of the General Store’s charm.

This map kinda highlights both Ohio areas:

Course I grew up in southern Indiana - so if you are head through on old US 50 it’ll take you straight through historic Vincennes (site of a historic battle during the revolutionary war - George Rogers Clark fame put up as many standards as he had men).

Then keep going east on US 50 through Daviess County once you get past Washington (~20 minutes east of Vincennes) you’ll be in Amish country there.

https://visitindiana.com/things-to-do/39802-daviess-county-amish-country

Given your headed toward NY it’s likely that Middlefield will be the closest to your route if your going to head through Eerie on 90.

Have you ever seen an Amish farm??? Their barns are a site to behold...Also their farms are clean as a pin...

I happen to be part Tsalagi and with your attitude, I don’t think you’d be welcome on a reservation anyway...

There is a large community east of State College Pennsylvania. Lots of Old Order
Amish & Mennonite.

Freepmail me if you are interested as we work with about 600 horse & buggy families.
