Thank you all for commenting.

Whenever I start a thread (which isn’t often, I had to take a look and my stats said “You’ve posted a total of 139 threads and 67,084 replies”, so I talk a lot more than I direct conversation...there is a surprise) I usually like to respond to everyone who takes the time to drop in and comment.

But I had to take a break from the thread, because it is still quite painful for me right now. I shouldn’t have started it on Sunday night, because after I did that, I had a slide show in my head and pain in my heart as I lay in bed, and even two sleeping pills didn’t help. I was useless at work...utterly useless.

I knew I would miss him, but this little guy got his polydactyl paws on my heart, and I ache.

I just ache.

Big tough guy I try to project on occasion, but...I sure don’t feel like one. I feel like the smallest, weakest child who just had his most prized pet leave forever.

Never thought his loss would hurt me in this intense way, perhaps just because I am entering the winter of my life, and these things feel different.

But...I guess there is always spring. I can always hope there is spring.

There is a spring as you say. The pain eases and you fondly enjoy the good memories in time.

Adopting a kitty that REALLY needs a loving home will help, I had to put my 18 yr old to sleep 3 weeks ago OMG just thought I was going to ache forever!! Last week I went to the shelter and adopted a kitty, it of course is not the same, HOWEVER having another kitty crawling on my keyboard, meowing to be fed, jumping on EVERYTHING in the house has helped me SO MUCH, this kitty is SO GRATEFUL to be out of that cage and he has repaired my heart!!! His name is LUCKY because he is very lucky I chose him, I actually wanted to take them ALL home !!!!! LOL!!!

Allow yourself to grieve, fully and completely, then find another friend. It’s never the same — each is different — and you will still miss him, but it helps you heal, and it helps some cat also.

When you have love to give, you have to give it. That’s true for people and for animals.

I’ve been thinking about you. I know it hurts like hell. They are so dear. Our little ones.

The pain we feel at a time like this is commensurate to the joy they gave us. And to to the love you gave. Remember that. He was happy.

There is something so special and mighty about orange tabby boy cats!! My Maxwell looks exactly like yours. He is a very, very bad boy and I love him so much! I’ve been giving him extra love because of your posts. Extra love too, to my dear calico, Tweety. I dread the day I have to say good bye.

For me, over the years, the loss of one of my pets has been as painful as that of a family member. Is this because, with some exceptions, most of my family members are jerks? (Probably.) But maybe my pets have just risen to a level of inexplicable divinity.

Oh how we love them!
