It took one to know one. FDR's administration was full of Socialists (polite speak for Commies.)
One might download this book; The Roosevelt Myth. It is a free PDF. Somewhat primitive in its style, but a good read.
He was expecting either the Germans’ sinking American warships (i.e. the USS Reuben James) or something involving the Japanese and the China Marines to be the spark.
FDR’s policies mad the gret Depression longer and deeper, and apparently, that was fine with him.
FDR signed the 1935 Labor Relations Act (which had been passed by veto-proof demoncrat majorities in both houses), the upshot of which was little more than to exempt labor unions from the Sherman Antitrust Act. Which is the only reason collective bargaining is legal.
Which is patently unfair because it represents “price fixing,” a practice that is prohibited by law for all other levels of the manufacturing chain. The NLRA should be repealed, if for no other reason than it would defund criminal organizations such as the AFL-CIO, the Teamsters and the SEIU. And for added mirth, it would hare-lip the rulers of the demoncrat party.
FDR knew we were going to be at war eventually, after Germany invaded Poland. It was just a matter of what would supply the spark. dfwgatorexplains that the invasion of Poland started US military production buildup to fill orders from Britain. People were shocked when Germany overran France in May 1940; the assumption was that war between the two would replay the WWI stalemate.
- Freedom's Forge:
- How American Business Produced Victory in World War II
Arthur HermanThat focused the mind of FDR mightily; he didnt want the Royal Navy under Hitlers command. The upshot was that FDR started the mobilization of industry for war immediately upon the Fall of France. FDR knew that it took time to mobilize; he was told to figure 18 months. Which is just about exactly the delay between the Fall of France and Pearl Harbor. What a coincidence!

Truman tried to reinstate the New Deal, using the Korean War as the excuse to nationalize the economy via wage & price controls, railroad takeover, commodities, industry, etc. Same Wilson/FDR crap.
The difference? Republican Congress put a stop to it. Same thing w/ Obama — could have been far, far worse (even with Panzie Ryan)
ping to my #17.
Or to my #28, same difference. Double Ooops.
So which was worse, FDR’s New Deal or LBJ’s Great Society?
