HOW could it be possible for police to be where there is a crime taking place?!?

30,000 cops, how many working at one time? How many out on patrol? Even less.

What police do is keep a Lot of wannabe criminals on the straight and narrow because the FEAR of getting caught and doing time frightens many out of the life.
Without cops there would be no fear of that.
I said it only as a reference to proper self defense. Cops only rarely catch perps in the act. They’re there most often to pick up the pieces and write the report so that if and when the bad guy is caught, he/she can be properly adjudicated. Don’t depend on law enforcement for your own self defense. As you pointed out, there are simply too few of them. Criminals are afraid of cops because they’re armed and trained. They should be afraid of normal citizens for the same reason.
