Does anyone actually believe that over 5,000,000 people actually watch the CBS evening news or for that matter any of the network newscasts. Would really like to see just how Nielsen does those “ratings”, how they are formulated and just who pays for them.
I dont. I bet its similar to how Shepard Smith had such good ratings. Many cable boxes still tuned to last nights program while the home owner is working today. The tv screen is off but the cable box is still sending tuned-to metrics back to corporate.
Imagine their ratings if they actually made a point of telling the truth. 62 million customers looking for some network to take their business.

And do the “viewers” actually WATCH most of the newscast or is it just background noise? I suspect the number of eyeballs that are focused for the entirety of the show is far below what is reported.
The number depends on how many TV’s in Nursing Homes and waiting rooms are tuned into CBS. My Aunt was in a decent Nursing Home and the TV was on all day. Most residents were asleep in their wheel chairs until “Wheel Of Fortune” came on.
No one watches Nora.
