Mahatma Gandhi is revered across the world for his non-violent campaign for Indian independence and was nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
But plans to unveil a statue in his memory in Manchester have sparked a backlash from a student leader who claims he was a 'virulently anti-black racist'.
The 9ft statue has been donated to the city by the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, a spiritual mission based in Gandhi's ancestral homeland of Gujarat, following the Manchester Arena bombing which killed 22 people in 2017.
It is due to be unveiled outside Manchester Cathedral next month, to 'spread a message of peace, love and harmony'.

Lest we forget, Gandhi started his career in South Africa where he and other Indians were classified as ‘colored’a step below whites and a very big step above black Africans. He fought for the rights of coloreds and may well have been indifferent to blacks. At the beginning of the last century there were three independent black nations: Liberia, Ethiopia and Haiti. Contemporary feelings were that blacks weren’t capable of self government.
And no doubt a child molester as he frequently slept with young teenage girls. Basically, the guy was a nut.
MLK was worse than that. He had a string of affairs with other women and there is evidence to suggest that he was present in a room when one of his friends raped another woman while he stood there laughing. Makes you wonder whether the woman who stabbed him had a good reason for it.
The left is a sick disease on society where they always yearn to start from “zero” and exterminate everything previous counter to them. Liberalism is the greatest threat to mankind and needs to be eradicated because they have a vicious desire to eliminate us.
